Why call in the professionals to remove graffiti

Category: Graffiti cleaning

When it comes to graffiti removal, bad cleaning can be worse than no cleaning at all. While we might assume the exterior surface of a building to be sturdy and resilient, it can actually be surprisingly vulnerable.

At OneFifty we have seen numerous examples of building facades being irredeemably damaged as a result of contractors using inappropriate cleaning systems or cleaning products.

Irreparable damage caused by inappropriate cleaning

OneFifty is sometimes called out to try and rectify a failed attempt at removing graffiti, or recommend ways of addressing damage caused through heavy handed cleaning.

In one instance the building facade consited of composite stone, which can be a particular challenge to clean if you don’t understand building substrates and how best to clean them.

Composite stone is often used on new buildings because it looks great and costs less than real stone, but this man-made product is not as robust as the real thing. If you use water that is too hot, or at too high a pressure, or the wrong cleaning products, parts of the stone will simply dissolve leaving a honeycomb effect.

On this occasion the contractor completely underestimated the vulnerability of the composite stone and not only failed to properly remove the graffiti, but also ended up scarring the façade.

We did our best to rectify the situation, managing to completely remove the graffiti staining, but sadly the façade will be scarred forever.

The value of professional graffiti removal

Calling in a professional exterior surface cleaning company, with knowledge and experience of removing a range of graffiti from different substrates, makes a lot of sense.

As the saying goes, if you pay cheap, you often pay twice. And getting the job done properly won’t necessarily cost more, but it will ensure the best possible outcome and help guard against permanent damage. Moreover, damage caused by inexperienced cleaners can at best incurr significant additional costs and at worst leave permanent damage.
