The importance of commercial window cleaning
Category: cleaning, window
It’s probably not top of your to do list but getting your windows cleaned is actually a very important task and should be pretty high up on your annual property maintenance list.
Grubby windows make your building look run down and may be seen as an indication that it is not being properly looked after. This could also prompt people to speculate about other issues; might other aspects of the building also be in a poor state of repair, could this pose a health and safety risk? They may even question the financial stability of the property owners which is not what you want - especially if you are looking to rent or sell.
What’s the downside to not getting windows cleaned?
Apart from the negative appearance mentioned above, built up dirt and grime are actually bad for the glass in your windows (as well as the window frames and seals) causing it to degrade. Acidic contaminants from pollution and rain can actually 'etch' the glass, rather like the longlasting limescale marks you get on the inside of showers. This weakens the glass, making it more fragile, which means it will shatter more easily.
For good measure, it is worth considering getting the window frames cleaned at the same time as the glass as this can be more cost effective.
When is the best time to get windows cleaned?
Dirt and grime tend to build up over winter months, and we pay less attention to how our buildings look on the outside in the winter when it is cold and dark. More people choose to get their windows cleaned in Spring and Summer when the bright sun shows up dirt and grime, especially on windows.
People really appreciate the sunshine beaming through recently cleaned and sparkling windows in the Spring or Summer months.
But honestly, if your windows really need cleaning, now is the best time to get it done - whenever that might be!
How often should you clean the windows on a commercial building
It is generally agreed that windows need to be cleaned at least twice a year to maintain appearances. This should keep your building looking good without breaking the budget.
But this frequency does not take into account the building’s location. Windows on buildings that are near busy roads are likely to get dirty far more quickly and require more frequent cleaning. Also, if building work is being carried out nearby, that will probably create dust and debris making your windows dirty sooner.
