Preventing hazards at a development in Coed Darcy
Coed Dary is a sustainable property development near Swansea in Wales. Once completed it will provide 4,000 homes, schools, a community centre and facilities for work, sports and play. It’s built near the protected wetlands of Crymlyn Bog – an area known for its temperate, showery climate, which encourages the growth of organic contaminants on outdoor surfaces.
Ensuring safety
As the seasons turn, it’s incredibly important to ensure that surfaces prone to becoming slippery are kept clean and free of moss and algae. For Coed Darcy, these surfaces occur everywhere – from communal pathways to playgrounds and steps.
St. Modwen, the company behind the development, contacted us to remove algae and moss that had grown on exterior paved surfaces, especially on stair ways, making them slippery and unsightly and causing a hazard to both residents and builders.
Cleanliness that lasts
We tackled the steps using a combination of 150-degree steam and a biocide to inhibit further growth of organic matter over the winter months. The steps turned out completely clean and, more importantly, safe for use. The client was thrilled with the result, which returned the surfaces to as good as new.
